FAQs
What is Somatic Breathwork?
Somatic Breathwork is a therapeutic style of breathing that invites the body, not the mind, to lead the healing. Through intentional, rhythmic breath and nervous-system oriented guidance, you release stored tension, reconnect to your innate safety, and create space for clarity, presence, and emotional regulation. This practice works with the body’s natural capacity to complete stress cycles, unwind patterns of holding, and return you to a grounded sense of self.
How is it different from regular deep breathing or meditation?
Meditation works through stillness in the mind. Somatic Breathwork works through movement in the body. Unlike simple deep breathing, Somatic Breathwork uses:
-
Conscious connected breath patterns
-
Somatic awareness
-
Nervous system signaling
-
Guided emotional release
This creates deeper access to the subconscious, stored tension, and emotional patterns.
What might I feel during a session?
Every body responds uniquely. You may experience:
-
Tingling, heat, or waves of energy
-
Gentle trembling or somatic discharge
-
Emotional release (crying, laughing, yawning, sighing)
-
A sense of spaciousness or clarity
These experiences are normal signs of the body unwinding and processing.
Is Somatic Breathwork safe?
Yes, when guided in a trauma-informed way. However, there are contraindications. Breathwork is not recommended for individuals who are pregnant, have uncontrolled blood pressure, epilepsy, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or severe cardiovascular conditions. Please consult with your provider if you have medical concerns. Your safety is always prioritized, and you are encouraged to slow down, pause, or adjust at any time.
Do I need experience to join a session?
No. You are guided gently every step of the way. You cannot “mess this up.” Your breath will meet you where you are.
What does a typical session look like?
Sessions may include:
-
Grounding + body orientation
-
Conscious connected breath patterns
-
Somatic invitations
-
Nervous-system regulation
-
Rest + integration
-
Reflection prompts
What if emotions come up?
Emotion is simply energy in motion. If tears, memories, or sensations arise, your body is releasing what it’s ready to let go of. You are supported the entire time, and slowing or pausing the breath is always available.
What if I don’t feel anything?
This is more common than you think. Numbness, flatness, or “nothing happening” is often a protective pattern, not a lack of progress. Safety and connection build over time.
How many sessions do I need?
Many people feel a shift after one session, and deeper transformations occur over 4–8 sessions. Consistency creates integration and nervous-system resilience.
Can I combine Breathwork with Sound Healing or Reiki?
Yes, and the combination is powerful. Sound deepens presence, and breath unwinds the body. Reiki supports energetic harmony, and together they create a holistic, grounded, ancestral experience.
